Sky’s streaming offering on a television

Background

In 2020, the entertainment landscape was becoming increasingly fragmented: linear television, on-demand content, catch-up services and streaming apps were competing for attention. For audiences, greater choice also meant greater complexity.

Sky wanted to resolve that complexity rather than add to it – evolving from a traditional pay-TV provider into a central entertainment platform.

The task: bring content, product, service and a new pricing approach together in a single, clear brand promise.

Rather than putting technical features first, the campaign would focus on people discovering the simplicity of Sky through their everyday wants and needs.

From provider to aggregator

Sky Q became the strategic centrepiece: a platform bringing Sky programming, free-to-air TV, catch-up services and apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Spotify and DAZN together in one place.

The new positioning translated this benefit into a clear promise:

“Everything made simple on Sky.”

Simplicity became the unifying idea across the entire offering:

  • everything in one place, rather than across separate platforms
  • more included, with Sky Q, Sky Go, HD and Entertainment
  • more choice, through Sky content and partner offerings
  • more flexibility, through the new contract and package structure

One platform for everyone

The family became a model for diverse entertainment needs: Franjo loves action, San Diego loves series, Roccolito prefers children’s programmes and Verona enjoys romance. Different preferences come together – and Sky brings them all onto one platform.

Rather than explaining the aggregator positioning in technical terms, the campaign made it tangible through a familiar everyday situation: one family, one living room, one solution.

The Pooths as a campaign system

Six short sitcom episodes portrayed family life around Sky. They were filmed in the Pooths’ own living room in Düsseldorf, featuring Verona, Franjo, San Diego, Roccolito and their dog Piccolina.

Key facts

  • six sitcom commercials
  • one 40-second and four 30-second TV versions
  • campaign launch on 1 October 2020
  • campaign running until the end of November
  • gross media budget in the tens of millions of euros
  • TV, print, radio, POS, digital OOH, social media, online video and display
  • concept and execution by Sky Creative

The recognisable sitcom format provided enough room to communicate programming variety, Sky Q, apps, voice control and contract flexibility under one shared idea.

From campaign line to business platform

“Everything made simple on Sky” became a strategic framework for product, service and partnerships beyond the campaign itself. The line subsequently accompanied, among other developments, the integration of Prime Video, Disney+, DAZN and MagentaSport into the Sky Q ecosystem.

The campaign therefore went beyond a high-profile product launch: it made Sky’s role as an aggregator easy to understand and created a consistent narrative for the platform’s continued development.
